Have found a handy little gadget for people with Netbooks, UltraBooks and Windows tablets that lets you put the limited amount of USB 3.0 ports to good use. This little box give you a Gigabyte Ethernet port, VGA external video card and a USB 3.0 port so you can still have a HDD plugged in. My surface has only 1 USB port on it and I have to swap that between the USB LAN adaptor and external hard drives. It also has a mini HDMI out so with this I can even have 3 screens. Check it out here. www.j5create.com/our-products/external-video-adapters-usb3/jua370.html

USB, short for Universal Serial Bus, is an industry standard that defines cables, connectors and communications protocols for connection, communication, and power supply between computers and devices. USB was designed to standardize the connection of computer peripherals (including keyboards, pointing devices, digital cameras, printers, portable media players, disk drives and network adapters) to personal computers, both to communicate and to supply electric power. It has largely replaced a variety of earlier interfaces, such as serial ports and parallel ports, as well as separate power chargers for portable devices – and has become commonplace on a wide range of devices. Created in the mid-1990s, it is currently developed by the USB Implementers Forum (USB IF).
